Hey everyone!

Last weekend I entered the Ludum Dare, number 22. If you don’t know what it is, this is how they explained it:

The Competition is the familiar “make a game in 48 hours solo competition” that Ludum Dare is known for. Specific details can be found below. After the competition ends, participants are given 3 weeks to play and rate games created by their peers. After those 3 weeks, winners are announced.

The theme this round was “Alone”. I figured that the most alone someone could be is spinning around out in space. With that in mind, i set of to write notes in mspaint.

Once I had the plan down, i jumped into my favourite Java IDE, IntelliJ IDEA. I chose hava because it’s cross platform, and quick to develop with.

The game involved rotating objects, so I got to work on implementing a way to draw and move simple vector art. Once that was out of the way I added controls, asteroids, pickups and gravity.

Levels were designed in a simple text file. Without a graphical editor though it was a bit hard to build levels, so i used mspaint to help me.

As the end drew nearer, i got to work on the menu, and the intro, which would also explain the controls.
